Put On Religion Watch List
The U.S. Commission on
International Religious Freedom said the main reason it had
put Russia on the watch list of 11 countries was the creation
in February of the Justice Ministry's Expert Religious Studies
Council, "which was given extremely wide powers to investigate
religious organizations, including their activities and
literature, for a broad array of reasons, including

Church eyes Maya Indians
Metropolitan Jonah of
All America and Canada is looking to students from Moscow with
a Russian Orthodox background to work as missionaries among
Maya Indians. The proposal was announced in the St. Tikhon’s
Orthodox University on Saturday, during Metropolitan Jonah’s

Study:
Christians in Jerusalem Down to Just 2% from 20%
On the eve of Pope
Benedict 16's upcoming visit to Israel, an Israeli research
group says that the number of Christians living in Jerusalem
has shrunk to 14,000, down from 31,000 at the end of the
British Mandate – only 2 percent of the city's population, and
far fewer than the 20 percent it constituted in 1946. As such,
Jerusalem is following a pattern which has been taking place
in other cities as well: once-large Christian communities see
their numbers dwindle,
